The chief problem with occultism for the 'rationalist' has simply been the lack of any comprehensive scientific theory explaining the occult sciences and the results of psychical research. The theory of psychonics makes up that lack, and this chapter is thus for the 'scientific-rationalist.' Others may skip it.
We will develop the theory by analogy to physics. There are four elements of physics: geometry, quanta, particles and de Broglie vibes. The physical world is embedded in the four dimensional geometry of space-time. There are three basic particles inside the container of space-time: the electron, proton and neutron. They interact via four different quanta of action: the photon (electro-magnetic force), graviton (gravity and inertial forces), neutrino (weak nuclear force) and meson (strong nuclear force). The possible states in which matter and energy may exist, and the probabilities and conditions of transition from one state to another are determined by the de Broglie vibes (atomic quantum mechanics). There is an analog to each of these four elements in psychonics. The occult geometry includes the astral planes and is thus a five dimensional hyper space-time. The new quantum is the nouon (ESP interaction). The de Broglie theory is expanded to include cosmic quantum mechanics and de Broglie radiation as well as standing waves.
The explanation of precognition, levitation and apportation is related to the properties of space-time. Higher sense perceptions (HSP), which is the ability to see auras and chakras and similar things, is due to the de Broglie vibes, as is astrology and I Ching.
Psycho-kinesis (PK) has no new quanta, since PK of the levitation variety is the result of changes within space-time exactly analogous to those which produce gravitational and inertial forces. PK of the apportation variety is due to the deformation of space-time within the five-dimensional manifold. The theory of creation and stability of psychonic particles is similar to the theory of creation and stability for physical particles. Physical particles may be created from energetic quanta. So may psychonic particles (where it is called the 'crystallization of the light'). Psychonic particles are quasi-stable like the neutron, and may radioactively decay outside of a strong ESP field. When this happens the original nouons appear again.
For every form of energy in the physical world, there is an analogous form in psychonics. The analog of electricity is prana. Electricity is a stream of particles confined to a wire, under electro-magnetic pressure; prana is a stream of psychons under ESP pressure confined to psychonic nadi (Aka threads, veins or currents in the psychonic bodies of things). Nouonic energy is more comparable to light.
Psychonic matter does not have a fixed de Broglie vibration, but can change it upon nouonic command, and can receive de Broglie vibration, producing a nouonic output. This is the main way psychonic and physical matter interact. Psychonic particles are sensitive to the frequencies present at their formation.
The explanation of occultism has to do with psychonic physics and psychonic biology. Let's look again at the fundamentals of psychonic physics, beginning with geometry.
Space-time is written with a hyphen, because it is one thing, not two. The universe is four-dimensional. Time really exists, according to relativity theory. Time and space are not fixed and independent. Both vary with velocity, acceleration and mass. Only the combined four-dimensional distance between events (and similar four-dimensional quantities) remain invariant. In physics, time differs from space only in one thing. When figuring out the four-dimensional distance between two events, the squared time factor is subtracted rather than added.
This explanation of precognition mostly follows from this fact of physics. Nouons simply travel freely in space-time, unlike other quanta. That is the only new assumption we need to make.
The other interesting thing about space-time is that the effects of gravity and inertia are both due to deformations within space-time produced by the presence of mass. These space-time forces happen to be the only physical forces which act on all particles and quanta equally. This is also true of PK; PK of the levitation variety is due to the ability of psychonic matter to produce local deformations within space-time, upon nouonic command. Apportation is the deformation of space-time in 5-space. Think of space-time as a highly elastic sheet of rubber. Physical beings can travel from one part of the sheet to another only by staying on the sheet, traveling at less than the speed of light, and being governed by the effects of relativity: mass increase, time dilation, and space contraction, which prohibit interstellar space travel by anything like a rocket. By apportation, one small part of the sheet is stretched in the third dimension of the model (fifth dimension in reality) and joined to a distant part of the sheet. It is in this fashion that UFOs travel. How do we know this?
Remember that space-time forces control inertia quite as much as the force known as gravitation/levitation. And one of the things we know about UFOs is that they can control inertia, making impossible high speed instantaneous right angle or about-face turns. The 'falling leaf' behavior frequently observed with UFOs is also observed in poltergeist phenomena, where there is both apportation and levitation, and in Yaqui levitation with Jimson weed.
The explanation of levitation, apportation and UFO behavior comes mainly from existing physics. The only additional assumption we make is the extra dimension, which is known to exist from OOBEs.
On to the second element of psychonic physics, particles. We know that there is psychonic matter, because HSP sensitives can see it, Kirlian photography can photograph it, and the organized psychonic structures are needed to explain a variety of things, including acupuncture. But what do we know about the ultimate constitution of psychonic matter? Very little, except that Karagulla's best subject Diane sees a 'positive' yang flow in some of the nadi and a 'negative' yin flow along others, and this correlates with the explanation of qualities in astrology and with Robert Monroe's amusing description of OOBE sex.
The third element is the quantum, the particle-like carrier of action. The quantum of thought is the nouon, the carrier of the ESP interaction. Indeed, we can say that a nouon is a thought (though not the experience of the thought), and can be an image, a wish, a command, an idea or any of the components of ordinary experience. Everyone broadcasts nouons, some of which travel into the past or future (accounting for non-specific telepathy and precognition) and some of which condense as psychons, some inside the mind, and some on or in personal objects or surroundings. These psychons will 'radioactively' decay, producing memory and psychometry. In between lifetimes, the psychonic body lives off this stored energy and information.
Such psychonic activity doesn't automatically produce experience. The experiencer is the Atman, and experiences occurs only where there is Atman, which travels through the continuum of hyper-space-time along the time axis, producing our experience of time as a stream. The activities of the unconscious are probably not so different from the conscious (except in working with symbols rather than defined languages) and is unconscious only because the Atman is not present.
The fourth element of psychonics physics is de Broglie theory, also known as quantum mechanics. The de Broglie vibes can be directly sensed by HSP sensitives. These are the vibes of the creative song of Spider Woman and the song of the twins which keeps things solid (from Hopi myth). These are the vibes used when "the morning stars sang together, and the sons of God shouted for joy" (from the Christian bible). These are the vibes of the Pythagorean harmony of the spheres, for we shall see that de Broglie theory applies to planets and stars as well as sub-atomic particles.
The essential ideas of de Broglie theory for our purposes are these: every particle continuously gives off de Broglie waves; harmonious resonances (standing waves) determine stable states; these stable states (also known as quantum states) are discrete and discontinuous, and there can be abrupt transitions from one to another, sometimes in a cyclical fashion; all the wave phenomena may be observed with de Broglie waves, such as standing waves and running waves, carrier waves and waves that are carried, and positive and negative interference, and harmonics (overtones). These ideas are all consequences of de Broglie's original insights, somewhat lost and obscured in the mathematical formalism introduced into quantum mechanics by the mathematicians. The one thing is added here is a different formula for the frequency of the de Broglie vibration for cosmic objects, such as a planet or a star. Thus, cosmic quantum mechanics is not the same as atomic quantum mechanics (see appendix A). It is part of the explanation of astrology.
So much for psychonic physics. Now for psychonic biology. Psychonic matter exists in highly organized permanent structures, not only in human beings, but in everything. Indeed, it is the psychonic structure, not the molecular components alone, which organizes objects such as an animal, plant, crystal or a planet.
The psychonic human structures are of two rather different types, the mind type and the body type. Figures one and three of table one show aspects of the psychonic body; figures two and four show aspects of the mind. It is the psychonic body that is seen by HSP sensitives and is an egg shaped structure of 'light beams,' chakras, and the double. The acupuncture points are places where the 'light beams' or aka threads intersect the body.
In the center of the web is a system of macro-vortices of smaller vortices, traditionally known as chakras, each with a characteristic number of 'spokes' which remain constant. The system of chakras and aka threads is a pranic distribution system which controls cellular differentiation. The prana pump is a PK interaction with breathing. Acupuncture works by restoring (or short-circuiting) the normal pranic flow. Arthritis, cancer and heart disease are all due to improperly dividing cells. The interaction between physical and psychonic matter is two-way, so no matter what starts the process, the eventual result is a disturbed flow of prana and improperly dividing cells. (Tiny threads of psychonic matter reaching into each cell selectively turns genes on and off, normally). Anesthesia is probably due to the shunting off of pain sensations traveling along the aka threads.
Occultists, yogis and brujos ascribe specific and different emotional-perceptual-control-psychic functions to the different chakras. This is partially confirmed by Diane's observation that the chakras are connected differently in people with psychic or HSP abilities. It may be that part of the explanation of the zodiac effects in astrology have to do with the balance of pranic flow and the type of flow to the chakras. Air people might have energetic throat and crown chakras. Earth people might have strong abdomen and navel chakras; fire people, strong chest chakras; water people, strong gonad and eyes chakras. It would take someone with HSP to check this. The astrological qualities might refer to the type of pranic flow. Cardinal would be a flow of yang particles; mutable, yin particles; and fixed would correspond to an equally balanced flow of yin and yang particles.
The double does not seem to be part of the pranic distributions system. Probably it is the result of the same process which imprints personal objects with psychonic matter, the body being the most personal object of all. The most prevailing de Broglie vibes pattern it stores is the one produced by the body. Thus, when properly activated, instantaneous healing is the result. Since the double changes when the body changes, healing works best before the psychonic body has adjusted to the condition, something born out by the Christian Scientists.
The other part of the psychic self is the mind, which has no real analog in physics. It inhabits the psychonic body, as the psychonic body inhabits the physical body. It probably separates during the interim between lives and makes the planetary sojourn alone.
Figure four of table one is a picture of the self-mind, and figure two is a picture of the higher centers of the collective unconscious. The center of the self (fig. 4) is thus a higher self with respect to the ephemeral conscious ego, which is different in each lifetime. The higher self grows slowly from lifetime to lifetime. It is the superconscious source from which Edgar Cayce and other avatars speak. Indeed, we might almost define avatars (the super-instruments of spiritual science) by their ability to attain the superconscious state, whether in trance or in meditation.
Our own higher self is itself an ephemeral part of still higher selves (figure 2). There are race spirits which are differentiations of the collective human spirit which is a differentiation of the earth and moon spirits, which are differentiations of the solar system spirit, which is a differentiation of the galactic spirit, which is a differentiation of the universe spirit. These differentiations which have occurred in the remote past are symbolized by the tree of life symbol in the Kabbala. In the far distant future, there will be a great re-integration and stirring to life of the long buried higher centers of the collective unconscious.
As the name collective unconscious perhaps suggests, it was Jung who started Western thought away from its monadic individuality which has lasted thousands of years. Perhaps he was influenced by Oriental thought, but there is a certain amount of scientific evidence for the collective unconscious, even if we do not yet know enough to know if the Kabbala is accurate. There is the universality of certain symbols of the unconscious, such as the mandala, which is found in all cultures as a symbol of psychical integration. Jung found that patients who had never seen or heard of a mandala nevertheless dreamed them, produced them in therapy or danced them when they began to achieve psychic integration of the conscious with the unconscious. Indeed, Jung discovered an entire language of the unconscious, which is not unconventional or conscious but is found in all cultures.
There is other evidence. LSD subjects can remember participating in the evolution of galaxies, planetary systems, and in the evolution of the chain of life. We could, of course, pass these cosmic experiences off as weird hallucinations, but why would subjects independently have the same experience? And the other parts of LSD trips, properly understood, appear veridical and not meaningless fantasy.
Then there is the phenomenon of synchronicity. There can be synchronicity between individuals, where 'accidental' meetings of 'strangers' later appear to be highly meaningful, and could not possibly be chance. Albert Wilson gives an example where he, the only man in the world interested in experimental data on discreteness in galaxies, by chance winds up across the hall at Rand from the only mathematician in the world who had worked up a theoretical model predicting such a thing. The lives of creative people are filled with such synchronicity. There can also be a synchronicity between man and nature, which Castaneda noticed while looking for his ally (A Separate Reality). Possibly one can also find synchronicity in history, where events seem to have one meaning to the participants, but in the long run appear to be part of some grand design in history with quite a different effect. For instance, the two world wars in this country have had the effect of ending colonialism and the power of the privileged classes in Europe, thus paving the way for different world social orders to rise. Yet this was not wanted or understood at the time by any of the participants.
Perhaps the most outstanding example of synchonicity is that between certain twins. It is apparent that here we have souls that have just divided, so they share the same karma to that point. The Gaddises discovered that they share the same 'accidental,' exterior events at the same time, such as automobile accidents, broken marriages, diseases and death. But not all twins are twin souls.
All these things and certain aspects of collective apparitions, as well, are explained by the collective unconscious. Incidentally, the golden flower yogis ascribe specific places and psychonic bodies for the various higher centers. The ego lives in the eyes, the ordinary unconscious (primal spirit) lives in the heavenly heart, located in the center of the head, between the eyes, possibly in the center of the between-the-eyes chakra. The higher center of the self (accessible only through the heavenly heart) is located in the navel, probably in the middle of the navel chakra. The higher center of the self is known as the center in the midst of conditions, and the navel chakra as the place of power. Higher centers of the collective unconscious are accessible through the crown chakra, but only after one has gone through the place of power. The earth spirit lives in the earth's psychonic body, which has a web of light beams (leys of dragon current) the vibratory centers of the earth, located along the axis, which keep the earth solid and the air in gentle orderly movement (according to the Hopi). Geomancy, the occult science of the dragon current, is the geophysical equivalent of acupuncture.
Most of the basic theory of psychonics has now been laid out. Its first test is how well it explains psychical research and the occult sciences. Its second test will be its new predictions, for those areas and the physical sciences as well.
We have briefly discussed telepathy, precognition, geomancy, psychometry, clairvoyance, levitation and apportation, acupuncture and instantaneous psychic healing. Still to go: Cheiromancy, tarot, I Ching, apparitions, thoughtography, and astrology.
Cheiromancy probably works because the higher self marks the moira of a life on the palms. The moira is a pattern of lessons, challenges, and goals for a life, and according to Cayce is only about 20% rigidly determined. The I Ching and the Tarot as systems of divination are simply ways of communicating with the higher self. The unconscious thinks symbolically rather than verbally, so questions and answers have to be posed that way. The answer is communicated by controlling things not under conscious control, such as shuffling cards or the fall of coins or yarrow stalks. The Tarot mainly provides ESP information about past and future and the people involved in your progress. The book of change tells you the relevant change-state for your question, and probably works more by HSP. The higher center will not reveal something to you if it is not part of your moira to know it. A change-state is something determined by the de Broglie vibes. In a particular change-state, certain kinds of processes are more probable (and thus favorable) than others. Astrology and quantum mechanics are also mainly about change-states.
Apparitions are experiences created and integrated into normal experience by the stage-manager, another name for the mind-brain interactor created at first breath by the psychonic body as a seat for the mind. Veridical apparitions are triggered by ESP signals, which arrive as broadcast nouons or as pranic signals in the collective unconscious. The fact that apparitions are often collective apparitions shows that at the level of the unconscious at which the stage-manager works, minds are not separate, but merge into collectivity. The interactor is part of the explanation of astrology.
Thoughtography (what Ted Serios does) is an exterior example of what must happen constantly in the mind-brain interactor, namely, the impress of a pattern on physical matter by de Broglie radiation from psychonic matter. Dowsing, dermo-optic vision, HSP and OOBE vision are results of the sensing of de Broglie radiation by physical or psychonic matter (sensed by a psychonic organ in the mind), and this is also the same general principle used by the interactor to get information and to impart control to the brain. Kirlian photography is a similar phenomenon. The de Broglie radiation changes the photonic behavior of the energized air, making the pattern visible on film.
What makes the explanation of astrology possible is the theory of cosmic quantum mechanics, the theory of the interactor, and the correspondences between atomic quantum mechanical states in planets and in the human brain. It is the interactor that connects these things.
The main thing an astrologer does is the analysis of character from natal charts, transit charts and progressed charts. Natal charts consist in a symbolic map of the relative angular positions of all the heavenly bodies in the solar system at the place and time of a person's birth. The effects of astronomical relationships on personality can be divided into three components: zodiac effects, planetary qualities and planetary aspects. Zodiac effects are the most important. There are twelve zodiac states: aries, taurus, gemini, cancer, leo, virgo, libra, scorpio, sagittarius, capricorn, aquarius, and pisces; and two different kinds of zodiac effect: sun sign and rising sign. The zodiac states are the twelve variations produced by the four elements (fire, earth, air, water) and the three qualities (cardinal, fixed, mutable). These are discrete states. To someone who knows de Broglie theory they look exactly like quantum states (resonances) produced by two cyclical quantum numbers. Each month, both the elements and the qualities switch abruptly at the same time to the next element and the next quality as old resonances die and new ones start. This is known as a quantum transition.
The sun sign zodiac effect correlates astronomically with the position of the earth in its orbit around the sun. The orbit is divided into quadrants by its major and minor elliptical axes and each quadrant is divided into thirds. These different zodiac states are different change states, which to some extend affect everyone and everything. People born under a certain change state have it stamped permanently in their interactor, making certain interactions with the brain and with the psychonic body more probable than others.
The rising sign zodiac effect correlates astronomically with the position of the earth in its absolute spin. Such spin-states are known from atomic quantum mechanics. The two zodiac effects similar in character, but the rising sign is much faster (each state lasting only two hours) and somewhat weaker perhaps.
The planetary qualities are modulated by aspects and by zodiac states. Each planet always has a distinctive kind of effect on personality, and each planet contributes something different. This is a result of the different compositions and different states of matter in each planet. These effects are communicated to earth by de Broglie radiation.
Aspects are due to the positive and negative interference of standing waves which have harmonics (figs. 3, 5, 6) Both in atomic systems and in planetary or galactic systems it is the standing wave associated with each particle or body which determines its orbit. These resonances are circular waves which radiate out from the sun or nucleus in a fan-like pattern, with the greatest peak riding with the particle or planet, lesser peaks at 120 and 240 degrees, deep troughs at 90 and 270 degrees and a lesser trough at 180 degrees. In astrology, 90 and 270 degrees are square, a negative aspect, as is opposition (180 degrees). Trine (120 and 240) is a favorable aspect, as is conjunction (0 degrees). The pattern of troughs and ridges which results in positive and negative interference of the standing waves of different planets, is simply a result of adding the first few harmonics to the main frequency. The main frequency associated with any particle, planet or star is such that exactly one wavelength will fit into the orbit and the second overtone puts three.
The planetary qualities are conveyed to earth by wave phenomena. De Broglie radiation from individual atoms is carried by the large, slowly vibrating cosmic de Broglie resonances. It is actually the atomic de Broglie radiation which produces planetary qualities, but obviously it may be blanked out by negative aspects or may be accentuated by positive aspects. If the carrier waves of two planets add up at a certain point in space and time, their planetary qualities will both be found there in strength. If the carrier waves of two planets cancel each other out at a certain point in space and time, neither planetary quality will be found there.
Planetary qualities and zodiac effects are stamped so strongly on personality at the moment of birth because that is when the interactor is formed. The psychonic body (which controls cellular differentiation) incarnates at conception or into the sperm before then. The mind does not incarnate until after birth. In order for the mind to interact with the brain an interactor must be created of psychonic matter, tailor-made to the individual brain right down to the molecular level. But the psychonic body has no excess energy to do that until the first regular breathing, and is living off energy acquired by the radioactive decay of psychons. It is living off its own matter, in other words. But with the first regular unassisted breathing the prana generator is activated and a rush of new psychonic matter is formed, all of it stamped by the de Broglie vibes present at its formation. Remember that a fundamental assumption of psychonic physics is that psychons are sensitive to the frequencies present at their formation, both for reception and for radiation. This fundamentally affects the ability of the interactor to react to different kinds of change, to monitor and control different kinds of events in the central nervous system, and it determines the kinds of pranic flow to be found in the psychonic body.
It may seem strange that distant planets should have a stronger effect on personality than the earth. The reason is that the earth is not primarily composed of molecules important in organic systems. And radiation decreases in intensity only as the inverse first power, thus massive objects such as Jupiter can produce an enormously strong de Broglie vibration of hydrogen here on earth, despite the great distance. And hydrogen is a principle component of organic systems.
The sun is associated with vitality, the moon with inner feelings which do not reveal themselves, Mercury with mental activity and restlessness, Venus with sensitivity, harmony, and emotions, Mars with initiative, Jupiter with expansiveness and opportunity, Saturn with restriction and perseverance, Uranus with radical changes, Neptune with intuition and dreaminess, and Pluto with inversion and universal welfare.
This is highly speculative, but: possibly the state of hydrogen in the sun (ionized) corresponds to the state of hydrogen in chemical free radicals (a transitory state of most chemical reactions) in the brain. The vitality effect would then be due to the universal range of control and monitoring thus conferred. The state of hydrogen in Jupiter (metallic) may correspond to the state of hydrogen in 'semi-conducting' molecules such as DNA or RNA. The expansiveness and opportunity effect is due to the close and accurate control over cellular differentiation thus conferred. Saturn is mostly hydrogen in a gaseous or liquid state. Its restrictive effects may result from its partial blanking or muddying of the closely similar vibes of the sun and Jupiter. Mars gives us the ability to monitor and control copper, a component of hormones, necessary for physical initiative and drive. Venus gives us control over sodium, phosphorus and sulfur. Phosphorus is a component of the universal energy carrier in the body, ATP, and sodium ions are part of the nervous transmission system. Sulfur is a component of enzymes and hormones. Certainly control of nerve transmission must have a lot to do with sensitivity and the emotions and harmony.
Psychonics clears up a number of mysteries in physical science, and this fact constitutes and important additional validation of the theory. The greatest mystery uncovered in astronomy in this century is the quasi-stellar radio object, or quasar. These appear to be point-like objects which produce as much energy as a galaxy, are at incredible distances from us, and are traveling away from us at sizable fractions of the speed of light. The most remarkable thing about quasars is that they vary their output of light rather rapidly, with periods of oscillation down to a fraction of a day. By conventional theory, this suggests that they are about the size of a solar system, yet there is no known way anything that small can produce as much energy as a galaxy. But quasars are actually exploding galaxies, light would take tens of thousands of years to cross them, and by conventional theory, there could be no more rapid oscillation than that.
The explanation is simple. The stability of stars and galaxies is due to the cosmic de Broglie vibration. Instabilities in the de Broglie wave propagate at the speed of light squared, divided by the ordinary velocity of the object (this is part of de Broglie's original theory). A quasar is a chain reaction of supernovas in an elliptical galaxy, which does not stop until nearly every star has exploded.
Why do any elliptical galaxies remain? The de Broglie vibes in the highly regular elliptical galaxy prevent an explosion without some special trigger, which was provided by the galactic spirit. Was, because there are no young quasars. The light we see from them started billions of years ago, while the quasar itself has long since gone onto the next stage of galactic evolution, the barred galaxy (fig. 4). The barred galaxies are themselves terminated by an explosion (Seyfert disturbances) and out of the debris is formed the spiral galaxy, such as our own. The evolution of elements, of star types, and of galaxies proceeds together. (Fowler, "The Origin of Elements," Scientific American 9/56). In first generation primordial stars, elements up to iron can be cooked by direct fusion. In second generation stars, formed partially from the debris of exploded first generation stars, different thermonuclear processes produce an abundance of neutrons, which are captured by iron to build elements of to the weight of lead and bismuth. The heaviest group of elements, up to uranium, can only be created in the explosion of a second generation star. Thus, our sun and solar system were made from the debris of exploded second generation stars.
At each stage of a galaxy's existence, it assumes a different shape because the cosmic de Broglie vibration of a star is dependent on its atomic composition. How do we know this? By working out the formula for the cosmic de Broglie vibes of the planets and relating it to physical quantities. See appendix A.
One of the things required for the further development of cosmic quantum mechanics is the study of the spectrum of gravitons. The quantum jumps that occur in cosmic quantum mechanics will release or absorb gravitons, and the energetic gravitons recently observed coming from the galactic nucleus could be the result of stellar debris popping out to the galactic arms. (Joseph Weber, "The Detection of Gravitational Waves," Scientific American 5/71). The reception of the proper graviton could cause the minute pole shifts also observed (Mansinha and Smylie, Scientific American 12/71) which precede major earthquakes.
