Interstellar Travel

Yogis claim that the sole function of spiritual exercise is to obtain Samadhi or enlightenment. They tend to put down the obtainment of psychic powers as mere trickery. In the West, we are more inclined to regard Samadhi as relatively easy to obtain. Most people can obtain it in the mature LSD experience (of individuated people over 40 who have done meditation). The Samadhi experience is very important, but it no longer requires many lives to achieve. And it is not true that physical technology can easily match all the feats of psychics. Some Yogis are over-impressed with Western technology. Few know that it has reached its theoretical outer limits with interplanetary travel, and that travel to the stars is forever denied to purely mechanical objects, propelled by purely mechanical forces. But, the Yogis might say, who needs it?

The Indic civilizations was given only one of the keys, the science of psychic exercise, yoga. This makes the Indic civilization timeless and meditative and unconcerned with evolution. The West has always been more restless and this difference continues in Western forms of occultism such as the Tarot. The Yogis can only think of escaping incarnation, little realizing that we have millions and billions of years of evolution in physical bodies ahead of us, before we are ready for re-integration. Beginning with the Wheel of Fortune, this evolution will take place on a cosmic, galactic scale. We need this, because with the closure of earth civilization, and the creation of world synthesis, we will no longer have a sufficient source of conflict, variety, and stimulus for evolution. Of course, we can generate sufficient internal stimuli for many thousands of years, but eventually we must go to the stars. We can only do this by developing these psychic 'tricks' of apportation, levitation and dematerialization and telepathy to an advanced state.

This seems strange. Surely, say the children of the World-Machine, the way to the stars is through technology. No way. An exercise of every physics undergraduate is to prove the physical impossibility of interstellar space travel by physical means as a consequence of relativity. It is because of this proof that scientists are far more skeptical of UFOs than ordinary folk. Scientists know that it is impossible to accelerate any physical object, by any physical force, to velocities greater than that of light. Indeed, one cannot accelerate any massive object carrying its own energy (e.g. a rocket ship) to anything close to the speed of light. And the stars are light-years apart, ranging from 3.4 for the nearest, to tens of thousands to the center of the galaxy. But how do we know some new force will not be discovered that will enable us to go past the speed of light? Because the limitation has nothing to do with the kind of force, or the kind of physical technology. It is due to the very character of space-time.

If we could approach the speed of light, then time would slow down for the space-travelers and the could still live long enough to make great voyages. Unfortunately, it is impossible to carry enough energy to do that. Energy is mass. And mass increases as time slows down as the speed of light is approached. Thus, it takes more and more energy to accelerate just a bit more, because of the rapidly increasing inertia. Thus, one must start out with more and more energy in order to get closer to the speed of light, but that means you are more massive to start with, and thus the mass increases just that much faster...in other words, there is a law of vanishing returns and interstellar travel by anything resembling rockets is impossible.

Yet we know that we are constantly visited by interstellar visitors (the UFOs), and there is reason to think they can detect events on earth and be here to investigate within a year or two. There is one species (the 'foo fighters') who have so mastered precognition that they come even before the event. We are visited not by one species, but by many, varying enormously in appearance and in vehicle, and even in stage of evolution. Some travel in material containers (flying saucers are one such type), others do not (balls of fire, or points of light). The material containers of the saucers are not rockets. Undoubtedly, they are little more than lifeboats. If physical forces and physical acceleration is ruled out, how do they get here?

By process of elimination we come up with the psychic forces. They are the only ones we know which can escape the limitations of space-time and matter, even to the extent of eliminating inertia. Apportation and levitation work by locally altering space-time, while dematerialization depends on mastery of the de Broglie waves, which also ignore the relativistic limitations.

There are a few rare individuals on earth who have mastered these abilities by psychic exercise, notably Sri Yukteswar. If he can do it, we can all do it, though it will undoubtedly take many lifetimes. Indeed, what is needed for mankind to make this great leap is a long, long period of cultural stability and vitality on a highly civilized level...the period of Strength. Once the stable economic and political conditions of the new age are established, we can all spend a great deal of time in psychic exercises....with going to the stars one of our chief aims.
